쥬리히 대학 병원에서 세계적인 뇌전문가 그루버 박사 밑에서 공부하던 웨스트는 실험 중 잘못되어 박사가 끔찍한 모습으로 죽게 되자 미스커토닉 의과대학으로 온다. 웨스트는 이학교 뇌전문인 힐 박사의 연구가 구식이라며 하면서 그와 마찰을 빚는다. 웨스트는 다니엘 케인의 집에 하숙하게 되는데 다니엘과 학교 총장 딸인 약혼녀 메기는 어느날 죽은 고양이가 웨스트의 냉장고에 들어있는 것을 발견한다. 웨스트는 죽은 고양이에게 시약을 투여하면 되살아날 수 있다고 말한다. 그리고 인간을 대상으로도 시약을 시험해야 한다며 다니엘에게 도움을 청한다.
